Music Review #1: Resonant Blue
Resonant Blue by Morning Musume:
Resonant Blue is MM's 36th single. Good job, girls!
Now, for the review.
Resonant Blue mixes the old with the new. It is not unlike the more recent singles, Onna ni Sachi Are or Kanashimi Twilight, but it also has a similar feel to the songs released while the fourth generation members were around. Yoshizawa Hitomi, who graduated Morning Musume about a year ago, and also left role of captain to Takahashi Ai, would suit this song well, I think.
The lead vocals are Takahashi Ai and Tanaka Reina, which is a shame in my opinion. While Takahashi does have a relatively strong voice, she and Reina have been the lead singers in almost every single released since they came in. It would be nice to see a bit of change.
Perhaps give the part to Kamei Eri, who has managed to go by unnoticed. While she does get the occasional solo, she hasn't really gotten a chance to show what she's got. Mitsui Aika, as far as I can tell, has never had a major part. Kusumi Koharu sings more than others, and Niigaki Risa gets a few moments to shine, but I have a feeling she'll be in Morning Musume for a while.
The problem I have is Li Chun and Qian Lin. The two Chinese members haven't gotten much of a chance to show their talent, save for a line each in Onna ni Sachi Are. Chun is a very talented singer, with a very strong voice. Lin I don't for as much, as her voice is a little too rough for my taste.
The B-side, Sono Bamen de Bibiccha Ikenai jan!:
This song is almost exactly like one that would have been performed by the older generations, which makes it a nice change. As far as I can tell (I'm still not that great identifying voices just yet) JunJun and LinLin get slightly large parts than normal, but still, the lead vocals are Takahashi Ai and Tanaka Reina.
I hope the next single, they give some other singers bigger parts!
